Michael began his career as an independent restaurateur in 1979 at Michaels Restaurant and Lounge on Charles Street and Alpine Road. This first location created a restaurant featuring large steaks, chops, rack of lamb, and prime rib complemented by fresh seafood, chicken, pastas, and of course the now famous linguini with garlic butter sauce. Michael opened the City Club on the top of Amcore bank and Michaels at Perryville both very unique venues.
Michael has always believed a great restaurant is more than just wonderful food, genuine and sincere hospitality, friendly and conscientious service, and an affordable menu should bring guests back time and again. Consistent with Michael’s belief, quality, affordable, food, great service, and warm hospitality have prevailed. Michaels on State is no exception. The transformation from the Ground Round days is considered by most as very clever.
The bar is high energy, electric, complemented by master pieces of art from the very talented local artist Jeannie Coe. The dining room atmosphere and décor utilizes the Miracle Mile identity to adorn the walls with 3’ by 4’ sepia pictures of Rockford’s nostalgia. For example but not limited to downtown, the airport, hospitals, schools, the Register Star, city hall, and Rockford’s very own Cheap Trick.
To take affordable, and perceived value to a level that exceed guests expectations chef Raul’s talents are showcased daily and complement Michaels traditional tried and proven lunches and dinners. Michael and staff sincerely believe this Miracle Mile restaurant will serve the community and surrounding areas for many years to come. Their goal is continue the tradition of excellent food, service and hospitality.
